La Macchina Amleto (The Hamlet Machine), a concert work realised by the Desperate Housewaifs collective, is a reworking of Heiner Müller's apocalyptic “Die HamletMachine”. Abolishing the canonical concept of the stage, the collective forces the spectator to invade the physical and aural space of the performance, which takes place between liminal steel corridors and viaraffineria shelving. In scene writing and the creation of sound spaces, the collective navigates feminism, disappearing roles, abolitions of the flesh, apocalypse and revolutions.
The production of the performance also benefits from the contribution of Angelo Licciardello, who, starting from the name of the collective (WAIF=ORFANO), develops a research on the concept of abandonment and forsaken transposed into a mural aimed at evoking images of forgotten, lost, bewitched places. The mural and viaraffineria become, by juxtaposition, a place of survival where Desperate Housewaifs are welcomed.
